I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 28 weeks, and the next seven weeks were filled with constant medical visits. I spent days in and out of the hospital, at my OB's office twice a week, and with MFM every other week. My medication was adjusted weekly to try and stabilize things. At my 34-week appointment, my blood pressure spiked dangerously, and I was immediately sent to the hospital where I was placed on a magnesium drip and induced. The goal was to get two steroid shots to help my daughter’s development and buy a little more time.
After three intense days, I had to undergo an emergency C-section. My beautiful baby girl was born, but she wasn’t breathing. She was transferred to a hospital with a higher-level NICU, but they didn't have the staffing to take me, so I remained at my current hospital. Being separated from her during those first precious days of her life was beyond heartbreaking.
For 12 weeks after her birth, I struggled with my blood pressure, frequently visiting the doctor and staying on my medication. Today, my beautiful girl is two years old and thriving. Preeclampsia changed my entire perspective on pregnancy and motherhood. I'll never stop raising awareness and sharing our story to help educate others
