Intended Audience: The information on this site is intended to offer support and education for patients, loved ones of patients, care providers and community advocates.
Advertising: This site does not host or receive funding from advertising or from the display of commercial content.
Funding: This website is funded by donor contributions, helping us achieve our mission of providing credible information to both patients and providers.
Editorial policy: Our education content is created by our editorial team in partnership with qualified writers, and is reviewed by our Medical Advisory Board of doctors and other allied healthcare professionals. Our goal is to give you the most current and accurate information available as clearly as possible, along with practical advice to help you manage and cope with challenges you may face on your preeclampsia journey during pregnancy, the postpartum period, and beyond. Our editors, advisors, and fact-checkers are constantly updating and reviewing articles to ensure they're up to date, comprehensive, and helpful. If you see something about which you are concerned, please email our team.
Legal: It is not uncommon for the Foundation to be contacted by attorneys and families about the possibility of legal action against their healthcare provider or hospital. The Foundation does not participate in litigation in any way, either by funding cases, providing expert witnesses, or offering legal advice, nor do we encourage or discourage such actions. Our mission is to work together with researchers and healthcare providers to ensure the best quality of care. If anyone feels their case was mishandled, they should consider filing a complaint with their state's licensing board and, if appropriate, investigate legal remedies. Some doctors on our Medical Board will review medical records, but these services are generally fee-based and in all circumstances are arranged directly with the doctors. The Foundation will not forward any requests.
On terminology: Throughout our website and materials, the terms 'woman', ‘mother’, 'mom', ‘maternal’, ‘she’, and ‘her’ are used in reference to the pregnant and postpartum person. We recognize not all pregnant patients identify as mothers, women, or other gender-specific terms. We acknowledge and respect the variations that exist in gender identification, and emphasize strongly that all people, regardless of their gender identity, deserve the best medical care and validation as human beings.
Women’s voices continue to be underrepresented, unheard, and underfunded both here in the United States and worldwide. As an organization who centers our mission on maternal and infant health in general and preeclampsia in specific, we want to ensure that these important voices are included, amplified, and heard in conversations about their own healthcare.
