Find an Advanced Expert in Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome

Looking for a doctor who knows a lot about preeclampsia? You deserve to have a top-tier expert on your healthcare team!

Our "Expert Directory" map below allows you to quickly identify a doctor who has not only the advanced training of all maternal-fetal medicine specialists, but is a “super specialist” in preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy such as HELLP syndrome, eclampsia, postpartum preeclampsia, and long-term high blood pressure. These providers conduct research, develop and lead quality improvement initiatives, teach and mentor others in the field. Most are available for remote patient consultations.

Who is on this map?

Each doctor on our Expert Directory map has been reviewed through a rigorous process. A committee from the Preeclampsia Foundation's Medical Advisory board reviews and discusses a scored application for each candidate. Some experts on this map are obstetricians (navy pins), some are cardiologists (pink pins), while others are specialists in other areas, usually related to the organ damage caused by preeclampsia (yellow pins). These other specialities might include areas like nephrology (kidney), neurology (brain), or obstetric medicine (doctors who focus only on pregnancy and not anything else).

Physicians in this Expert Directory have indicated their availability to see patients, provide peer consultation for other healthcare providers, or may be available for speaking engagements. If they are available to see patients, it may be in person, virtually (via telehealth), or both, for the following needs:

  • Pre-conception or between pregnancies consultation and risk assessment
  • Managing complicated pregnancies
  • Providing postpartum care
  • Reviewing your case or providing a second opinion
  • Providing long-term care follow up, such as your heart health and hypertension management

Who is NOT on this map?

All general obstetricians should know the basics about high blood pressure in pregnancy and preeclampsia. This is part of their training to become a medical doctor who specializes in pregnancy and the postpartum period. In addition, there are many high-risk specialists, known as "maternal-fetal medicine sub-specialists" (MFM), who go through two years of additional training following their doctorate degree to learn how to work with high-risk pregnant patients. An excellent directory of MFMs is available from our partners at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) here.
