I had my baby Jan 31st 2025 via emergency c section related to baby in distress with labor. I was induced due to a handful of high blood pressure readings throughout pregnancy. I labored for 29 hours before going for an emergency C section.
My daughter had a 3 day NICU stay due to respiratory distress at birth. She was intubated and I didn’t hold her until 12 hours later. 3 days after delivery, I had a high blood pressure spike the night before we were going to be discharged. My blood pressure had been stable since admission. They started magnesium sulfate. The absolute worst. I got blood pressure meds and was sent home about 36 hours later. I had 3 additional hospital admissions due to my blood pressures being uncontrolled with oral meds. The highest I saw my pressures were 180/110. I was truly scared for my life.
The first week of my daughter’s life was also the scariest week of my life. I had 3 more rounds of magnesium sulfate after that. Magnesium made me feel drugged, delirious, all I could do was sleep. I was at my lowest point on that drip. I was supposed to be at home taking care of my newborn baby. I felt like the worst mom and that my baby wouldn’t know me.
Fast forward to 5 weeks postpartum, I’m on Clonidine 0.2mg once a day. I’ve tapered down from 0.3mg 3x a day. I hope to eventually be able to come off my meds altogether. Being my first pregnancy, I’m genuinely terrified to ever have another. My birth experience was ripped out from under me. I’m taking it day by day and trying to heal!
